Arikok

An exploration of lava, cave encrustation and ocean coast line.

Palm Dance: Aruba

A manifestation of linear movement in a dancing palm.

Turbulence / Resolution

A violent garden storm becomes a visual notation on the resolution of life’s unexpected passages.

China Reflections

A layered interpretation of the rice terraces of Yuanyang focusing on reflection and abstraction of the waterscape.
The fourth video in China Suite.

Rising From Within

Rising From Within, part of China Suite, a journey of transformation focuses on interior passageways and the power of sensuous landscape …. unfolding

Stone Forest Sample

Stone Forest Transformations, part of China Suite, translates and re-defines rock formations into a layered abstraction of landscape.

Leaping Tiger Gorge, Redefined

Leaping Tiger Gorge Redefined uses footage of the Yangtze River as it narrows and cascades into a gorge. I am interested in the linear abstraction that pulsates and expands the river and surrounding cliffs, yet holds the reality of surging water as a constant visual source.

Wave Transformations 5 min. sample

Wave Transformations seeks a new interpretation of nature through the creation of computer processed imagery. This waterscape visually extends into abstraction yet maintains the imprint of the real world. The ocean separates and reforms, merging form and color, reaching into surrealistic space. Images become linked passages of memory and recalled transformation. The Atlantic Ocean becomes a metaphor for creation, evolution and the regeneration of planet earth.

The Idyllic Landscape

My work in moving image media is focused on the translation of the seen environment into a new visual form. Lyndhurst’s historic landscape provided the inspiration for this piece. Images were collected over a year as color and light become more pronounced with seasonal change. From the starkness of the winter landscape, filled with linear patterning to the richness of fall foliage, the camera tracks the evolving environment. The images, transformed by computer processing create a layered mediation that redefines landscape into a poetic reverie.

Fall Illusion

“Fall Illusion” explores landscape and water as a meditative abstraction. Most of the original footage was shot in negative, producing unusual color that transformed reality into a visionary experience. The transformation is further realized through digital layering. Water enters the landscape and progresses until it becomes the only image reflecting upon itself.

Tidal Reflections at the Bay of Fundy

Tidal Reflections at the Bay of Fundy uses computer processing of video images to enter into a dialogue with a powerful site. These newly created images transcend their origins in the natural landscape. The images contribute to a visionary statement that speaks to the force of nature.

Tidal Transformation at the Bay of Fundy

A further exploration of the Bay of Fundy, Tidal Transformation at the Bay of Fundy including spherification of the site, emphasizing the processing of video imagery.

Brecht: a Portrait

The video fuses images of ocean and beach with woodcut portraits of Brecht by Ilse Schnreiber-Noll. The project began with identifying a site that carried a Primeval power that would envelop and reveal an internal aspect of the woodcuts. Light, reflection and shadow was key to the gathering of images. They become a moving sketchbook of ideas that would become the structure for the introduction of the portraits. Digital manipulation offered me the ability to create a layered mix of elements. These multiple realities recreate time and subject into a new personal landscape. The piece speaks to an expanded vision of site incorporating the artist’s hand within the forces of nature.

Show as a projection at the Brecht Forum NY 2010.

Alaska: a fusion of realities

“Alaska: A Fusion of Realities,” reinvents land, ice and water to create an expanded vision of the environment. Images were gathered from a small plane, a boat and by hiking on the surface of a glacier, and include mountain ice vistas, floating icebergs and a calving glacier that speaks to the impact of global warming. The images are structured as multiple layered interpretations of reality that reach into abstraction.
Through Schneider’s compositional expertise a localized place becomes transcendent space while historical and indexical time freezes and shifts into primordial and immemorial time. The artist’s works transmutes and transforms: the materiality of the world so fervently recorded becomes transubstantiated into the world of pure presence. Materiality becomes immateriality. Through this ideological framework a deep coherence is seen as underlying all phenomena and Nature is the embodiment of an eternal Idea.

Destruction / Creation / Rebirth

Seeking the power of earths transformation after a volcanic eruption in 2005 on the big island, Hawaii, smoke filled aerial images (that waited 15 years for stabilization software), connect lava, the bones of the earth to the ocean; rebuilding an evolving landscape as signs of life appear.

Pond Reflections

I seek to create work that transcends its source to form a new reference to a visionary landscape. I create layered images with multiple realities that progress from the real into abstraction and a fusion of the two. “Pond Reflections,” collected over a three year period of time explores the power of seasonal change. These expanded images of waterscape speak to a personalized vision of place and the continuance of life itself. The premiere presentation included Digital Fusion paintings that are birthed from video.

Hudson Flow: a river of dreams

Internal flows of energy…revealed
Penetrating the river.. seeking the life pulse
The Hudson speaks to the surge of renewed life.

The river, reverberating, constantly in motion, parallels our own life force.
The sound of my blood coursing through my arteries captured via ultrasound is incorporated into the score by Eric Kaye.

The piece offers a poetic reverie as a contemplation of life.
